Rabbi Shaul Maslaton's Message

“Moshe grew up and went out to see the plight of his brothers”

According to the Torah, true maturity is about accepting responsibility—not just reaching a certain age. Although Moshe lived as a prince in comfort and luxury as the adopted son of Princess Bitya of Egypt, he chose to identify with his fellow Jews, leaving his life of privilege to witness their harsh conditions as slaves.
Rashi explains that Natan eino v’libo liheyot meitzar aleihem, meaning “He focused both his eyes and heart to perceive their suffering and share in their grief.” Moshe Rabbeinu didn’t simply observe or assist with their burdens—he deeply empathized, personally feeling their pain.
Supporting someone in need is a meaningful mitzvah, whether that’s offering practical help, financial support, providing meals, or showing encouragement and comfort when needed. Yet, these actions are only part of what’s required. The concept of nosei be’ol im chaveiro asks us to carry the yoke together with a friend and genuinely feel their struggle. Moshe may not have physically worked alongside his brothers, but he truly suffered and grieved with them, fully experiencing their anguish.

Shabbat Shalom
